Bianca Reichel – Driving Climate Resilience through Nature-based Solutions
I am a Senior Expert in climate adaptation and resilience, specalising in Nature-based Solutions (NbS), with over 15 years of international consulting experience.
In my work, I support organisations, governments and companies in effectively preparing for the impacts of climate change, conducting sound risk analyses, and developing and implementing innovative, sustainable adaptation measures.
My work focuses on integrating NbS into climate adaptation practice and policy in Germany, Europe, and the Global South.
Throughout my carrer, I have had the opportunity to contribute to projects with organisations such as the World Bank, KfW, GIZ, the German Environment Agency, the European Commission and European Investment Bank. These collaborations included:
- Climate risk and vulnerability assessment (CRVA) design and implementation.
- NbS investment support from feasibility studies to design and implementation — including river restoration, urban greening, and erosion control.
- Policy recommendations and practical guidance to embed NbS more systematically into planning, policy, and implementation.
- Facilitatation of trainings and workshops on climate risks, adaptation strategies, and NbS, using interactive and participatory methods.
I work at the intersection of research, strategy, and practice – guiding projects from planning and implementation through to impact assessment. I operate in German, English, and Portuguese, drawing on hands-on experience from assignments in Germany, at the EU level, and in countries such as Mozambique, Brazil, Rwanda, and Vietnam.
With an academic background in project management and political science, and many years of professional experience bridging technical planning and strategic policy advice, I bring interdisciplinary thinking and systemic approaches to my work. What drives me is the passion to translate climate resilience and social justice into practical, real-world solutions.
